(More customer reviews)I do a lot of watercolor sketching while traveling. And, traveling can mean going to Eastern Europe or just down to a local park. When travel sketching like this, it's very important to have a good kit, which includes good brushes. These Arches series brushes, in both siberian squirrel and kolinsky red sable are my travel favorites. I like this design wherein half the brush slides into the long cap to travel, then that half a brush fits into the cap to form a usefully long brush in use. I've never had the least trouble with the ferrule design. (Historically based upon sea bird quills wrapped in gold wire but now typically plastic wrapped in baser wire.) The caps in these Arches have always fit tightly, have never annoyingly kept falling off due excessive looseness, unlike with another, similar, competing French Brand. With these reliably snug-fitting caps, there's no screw threads to misalign or strip as with yet another travel brush design.

The hairs come to a very good point. If you want a stiffer, a less lank brush, then buy the Arches red kolinsky in the same design. Personally I like and use both kinds.

If I don't have enough room to pack a full-size bamboo rollup with regular studio length brushes, these are in my neat little kit. Highly recommended.
