Hydrofarm ActiveAir Blower Fan 465 CFM Review

(More customer reviews)I have purchased this 465 CFM blower fan from Hydrofarm, but the paint was flaking off and the metal was rusty after I received it in the mail. I contacted the seller, and they said Hydrofarm was going to send me a return label, but I never got it. I contacted the seller again, but no response.

Also, the motor runs very hot. I cannot leave my finger on the motor body very long before it would burn my finger. It isn't smoking hot yet, but I don't feel comfortable leaving it on if I'm not home.

I'm going to return the product to Amazon if I don't hear from the seller or manufacturer shortly.

(More customer reviews)I've looked at every hanging feeder there is and I just got rid of one of those squirrel buster brome jobs.That thing was lame and the squirrels chewed it up around the holes where the food is and rain seemed to make it's way into the feeder and i actually ended up growing things in it!!!

The skycafe is ominous looking at first but after a day or so it blends right in to the yard.It is big:)The birds love it and it's fun watching the squirrels fall off of it.The only thing I could say I would change about it would be the little rubber grommet that is located on top, the squirrels chewed it up in about a day but that's no biggie.

I'd definitely buy another one should something happen to this one.

(More customer reviews)I got one of these for my 100lb 12month old bullmastiff and he gutted it within 15m.Actually, he ripped thru an ear and from there managed to possibly swallow part of the sqeaker.I got my doggie to barf up his dinner, which he had just eaten about 15m before and didn't see any of the squeaker in it, just a bit of fur from the tail.

That said, before I surrendered the poor squirrel over to his doom, i was rather impressed by it.

The search continues for a toy my dog cannot destroy (well, quickly).

(More customer reviews)This is a very nicely made bird feeder and because I thought so, I now own two of them!Please do not believe for a moment this feeder is squirrel proof because it is not!If you can hang this feeder under a porch where the squirrels have absolutely no way to reach it then it is SQUIRREL PROOF!There is another solution you can also consider which I have incorporated on several other feeders I own.Find the largest plastic salad bowl out there, cut a slit in the bottom of the bowl and insert the handle through the bowl from the inside and rehang the feeder.If the bowl has any ridges or lips on the rim you can figure the squirrel will figure out how to hang on with their back feet upside down, swing over the to/sides of the bowl until he can reach an opening and then stuff himself! This keeps out the smaller red squirrels but the big gray ones are so long they just wrap themselves, with back feet hooked on to the wire rod at the top, over the bowl and reach down and feed themselves until full!!!The other solution is a very long extension pole attached to the side of a post or preferably your house so they can not even get to the extension, then the feeder is "squirrel proof!"

Squirrel's Delight Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this squirrel feeder in fall of 2005, and greatly enjoyed watching the squirrels' antics the first winter. Little ones would sit inside to feast, popping up like a jack-in-the-box, while larger ones would lift the lid, reach in with the lid resting on their backs while they grabbed a piece of peanut,then lean back and let the lid drop while they ate, then repeat this many times.

The following winter, I started noticing that some of the squirrels had bald spots, and they looked worse with each passing day. I feared there was some sort of mange going around. Then I realized that none of the smaller squirrels were effected, just the big ones.

And then I realized that the bald spots were precisely where the lip of the lid would be scraping against their backs as they pulled away from the box.I went out and felt the bottom edge of the lid, which was sharp as a razor, and which has been dragging across their backs as they pull themselves out of the box.

The box is coated with an enamel paint, and over the course of last winter, the squirrels' bodies must have rubbed that off, exposing the raw edge. I suppose I could put duct tape or something along the edge to dull it but I don't want to take the chance at this point and frankly, I no longer enjoy watching them at this feeder knowing it has harmed them.

A box feeder is fun to watch, but I recommend you avoid any type which has an overhanging lip on the lid as this one does. I have seen others which have a flat lid, and though it's more easily destroyed, wood would probably be less hazardous than metal.

Henry Pelham, Boy with a Squirrel, 1765 Art Poster Print by John Singleton Copley, 11x14 Review

(More customer reviews)John Singleton Copley (1738-1815) was born in Boston, and though he learnt at an early age the tools and basics of painting from his artist stepfather Peter Pelham, and continued art as a living after Pelham's death when Copley was in his early teens, he was largely self-taught as a portraitist, and did very well with the commissions he received from many wealthy clients.
Encouraged by England's great Joshua Reynolds, who praised Copley's "Henry Pelham (Boy with a Squirrel)", Copley left America for Europe in 1774, and then settled in London, perhaps partly to further his career, and partly because his wife was from a Loyalist family, and Boston was not the best place for Loyalists to live in the mid 1770s; once in London, he did the work he had always wanted to do...large canvases with historical themes, and he also became a member of the prestigious Royal Academy of Art.

"Henry Pelham (Boy with a Squirrel)" was painted in 1765 of Copley's half-brother, and has exquisite detail and fine brushwork with such things as the fabric and the squirrel's fur. The original is oil on canvas, approximately 30 x 25 in size, and hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Though Copley's work has never really enthused me, especially those paintings from what is known as his historical "British Period", I acknowledge his magnificent skill, and appreciate that we are able to see portraits of his contemporaries like John Hancock in 1765 and Paul Revere in 1768, and "Henry Pelham (Boy with a Squirrel)" is one of Copley's best and most famous pieces, and one of my favorites from his very prolific body of work.
