(More customer reviews)This is a well built feeder but it doesn't keep all squirrels from eating at it.We have one pesky critter that gets each of his four paws on a separate perch and as they lower it places his face right at the opening so he can just hang there and eat. It IS entertaining, I'll admit, but not what you'd expect from a unit made to prevent squirrels and heavy birds from eating at it!

Product Description:
The Yankee Whipper features collapsible mechanical perch rods that are weight-activated using a patented Droll Yankees design. The curved perches attract a wide variety of birds including cardinals, but squirrels on the perches cause them to collapse. The perch re-sets automatically after the squirrel slips off. 21-Inches long tubular feeder with five pound seed capacity. Sturdy stainless steel wire hanger will not rust. Metal cap fits snugly so that squirrels cannot pry it off. 4.5-Inches diameter seed tube is made of UV stabilized polycarbonate for durability. Tube is long enough so that squirrels can't hang down from the top and reach seed. Interior is properly baffled to direct seed to the seed ports. Four seed ports are positioned around the tube. Metal parts have a beautiful evening blue finish.

The last time I bought this quantity it was in a hard cardboard tube which provides security for the contents over time. With this new packaging I had to secure an usused 5 gal paint bucket for storage. Good product - poor packaging.

The metal trip pan is so sensitive that when even a small mouse steps on it the door will drop and trap the mouse. The trap measures 12" long by 7" wide by 5" high. Just last week I bought a new feeder and within 24 hours the squirrels destroyed it, so I decided to make the jump to one of these and I will never regret it. Not only does it frustrate the squirrels but the birds love it. Within an hour of filling it there was a goldfinch on it! The large storage area makes it easy for lazy people like me to fill it every couple of weeks and then sit back & watch the birds come in.

(More customer reviews)This bird feeder worked for a few days then some wiley squirrels figured it out. They pried up the top cover and helped themselves. To remedy this I took a piece of wire and fastened down the cover. Now it works fine.
It gets a 4 star rating instead of 5 beacuse I had to come up with my own solution for our persistent squirrels.

Songbird Essentials All Weather Feeder Squirrel Cage Review

(More customer reviews)The cage is well made, simple to install, and does prevent squirrels from accessing the opening.However, the other main reason we purchased it was to keep the grackles from flying to and scaring all the smaller birds away, which the description DOES mention the cage deters. We have a LOT of grackles come spring, and early summer!
I don't mind grackles eating, I even strew seeds and peanuts on the deck for the larger birds, squirrels and chipmunks.But the grackles still manage, prefer even, to hang onto the edge and stick their heads inside to get at the sunflowers.I've never seen a dove attempt this.So the majority of the seed STILL goes to the darned grackles!
The smaller birds do still get inside when they get a chance, but once those big grackles come swooping down, away the little ones flutter.I also haven't noticed many cardinals on the feeder.I don't think the squirrel cage openings are quite large enough for the cardinals to feel comfortable enough to squeeze through, despite what the description says. They kind of fly around seeming to try to figure out how to get in.Although, if the openings were larger, that would defeat the intended purpose!
My husband mentioned that if the diameter of the perch and cage were larger, the grackles couldn't reach the inside seed, just what's dropped onto the bottom, which isn't that much.So maybe if the feeder (at least the bottom perch & cage) was constructed with a little more thought, it would work much better with it's intended purpose as a larger animal deterrent.

I cut some plastic replacements from a milk jug and these worked for a month or so, but more of the originals keep falling out. Three are gone, and the feeder is not a year old yet. My feeder hangs under the house overhang and so is not rained on; no problems with the spring, though the "stop" that keeps the cage from going too far down fell out fairly soon (I just put a piece of wire in its place).Grackle can feed at this feeder well.Larger birds such as blue jays and a large woodpecker will occasionally hang onto it in some way, but they don't persist. Purple finch and gold finch like it; I get some cardinals even (with black oil sunflower).

It's advertised for squirrels but it's either not big enough or the door doesn't shut hard enough because the squirrels were in and out w/ the bait, and laughing at me from the huge maple tree next door.I did catch a baby possum but only because he is sooooo slow.

(More customer reviews)I have a joint custody arrangement with my neighbor for her toy Yorkie, Bella.I play fetch with Bella at least twice a day.Usually we use a Chuck-it ball and thrower but I have heard that it is a good thing to keep play time interesting by changing it around occasionally.Since she is only 6 lbs. a regular Frisbee is too big for her, which is why I purchased the 9" Flying Squirrel.Here is my take on it:

*It is very well made for the price and it is attractive.Bella does't abuse her toys so I am sure that it will last.

*It flies well.I can throw a decent Frisbee so I had no problem with this toy, however it doesn't go as far as I had hoped it would.

*It's about the right size for a toy dog.She has to pick it up a certain way so she doesn't trip over it as she brings it back to me.

All in all I think that it is another great product from a company that makes wonderful toys for pets.
